ABOUT WEST PITT LAKES & LODGES
Seb & Angela purchased 12 acres of land incorporating two fishing lakes from West Pitt Farm in 2016 with the aim of creating quality holiday accommodation that blends sympathetically into the local environment and to provide a tranquil and relaxing place to stay.
Our larch clad lodges opened in 2017/18 and have mellowed and weathered to a beautiful silver grey with the initial planting of trees and shrubs for screening maturing nicely.
The ponds were dug in 1984 and used as a day ticket fishery, therefore they accommodated as many anglers as could be squeezed on, this meant that the banks were bare. An extensive planting regime including water lillies, water hawthorn, irises and many varieties of marginal reeds was undertaken with a few bushes planted to provide cover for birds. The lakes are transformed with the lilies looking amazing in summer and huge insect life with many varieties of dragonfly and damsels. A smaller pond in our furthest field has been left wild and is home to our resident kingfishers, they can be seen darting about the lakes catching their dinner.
In 2022 we applied to the Woodland Trust to be part of their More Woods scheme and were accepted, in January 2023 we planted 1000 saplings of no more than 2ft across 3 acres. Predominantly Oak the mix included alder, aspen, birch, willow, maple and many others and in the Summer of 2025 some of the trees are nearing 15ft tall. We have already seen deer amongst the trees and at dusk the barn owl can be seen hunting between them.
