The lakes cater for anglers of all abilities and ages and is for the exclusive use of guests.

Two Beautiful Lakes

Whether you are a competitive or pleasure angler or just starting out, West Pitt offers quality fishing for everyone. The lakes are stocked with a varied but compatible mix of good sized specimens including carp, crucians, tench, roach, rudd, and perch.

MALLARD LAKE

At about one and quarter acres in size, Mallard Lake is the largest and most popular of the West Pitt lakes. It has lots of lilly beds and marginal plants so will test your fish playing skills.

Species
The predominant species is hard fighting carp ranging from hand sized fish bred in the lakes to fish in excess of 16lb. There is a good head of crucians to 2lb, Tench to 4lb, Perch to 3lb plus roach & rudd.

Depth
Mallard is shallow around the island at 2-3 feet deep, the lake slopes off to deeper water at the dam end near the outlet where 9-11 feet can be found.

Method
The most popular techniques are waggler, pole, method feeder and simple carp rigs. Don’t forget the margins and feed accurately. Corn, meat, pellets and boillie are all popular baits. Keep the bait trickling in and you’ll get bites all day long. Bread has proven effective both on or just below the surface and can be excellent in the warmer months as the sun begins to drop. Maggots are great for the roach and rudd and a great way for the beginner to fish.

Favoured Pegs
The whole lake fishes well in the summer with the island and dam being popular, the deeper water near the outlet is favoured in winter where good catches of roach to 1.5lb can be taken.

Willow Lake

Although only half an acre in size, Willow Lake should not be underestimated. In the winter of 2023 we removed all the carp and made the pond silvers only with the main species Crucians & Tench. It is very weedy with lots of hornwort and lillies for the fish to hide in. There is a weed rake available for sensible clearing of swims.

Species
Tench to 5lb, Crucians to 2lb & plenty of smaller roach & rudd to keep the novice angler happy.

Depth
Average depth of 5ft

Method
Waggler and pole are the favoured methods, using corn, pellet, meat and sweet groundbait to target bags of tench and crucians. Select and feed two areas, one close in, the other further out. Bags made up of a dozen crucians with a similar number of tench are not uncommon.

Favoured Pegs
All pegs produce.
